The "Haus der Universität" at Schadowplatz 14 is a place of dialogue between science and society in the heart of Düsseldorf. After extensive renovation, the Heinrich Heine University was given the use of the building as an event centre by the van Meeteren Foundation. Since 2013, it has served as a scientific conference centre and central location, with the aim of making university research and teaching as well as academic culture present in the heart of the city. The premises can be booked free of charge by university members, but are also available for external events.
The Haus der Universität has its own programme for all interested visitors, in which current research findings are presented, discussed and experienced. In addition, it is the venue for other public events from the fields of science, society and culture. The Haus der Universität is supported in its work by the Haus der Universität Foundation of the same name, which is administered by the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf e.V.
For the Heinrich Heine University, the Haus der Universität assumes a central function at the interface between science and the public. It is part of the overall university strategy "Citizens' University", which actively promotes exchange with the city of Düsseldorf, the citizens and society as a whole. The Heinrich Heine University thus aims to make scientific findings accessible to the general public, to contribute to the understanding and acceptance of research results and, conversely, to allow impulses from society to flow back into research.
