What do we actually mean by participatory research and citizen science here at HHU? What projects already exist and how can the Public Engagement Unit provide support?
Citizens' University in Research
Fund for financing Participatory Research and Citizen Science at HHU
The “Bürgeruniversität in der Forschung” (Citizens’ University in Research) programme supports participatory research projects by HHU researchers that actively involve citizens and/or representatives of civil society who are primarily organised in associations, foundations, NGOs and social movements. This involvement can range from the joint development of a research proposal and participation in the implementation of research projects to the communication of scientific results or their transfer into application.
The selected participation approaches and degrees of participation can vary depending on the field of research and the focus of the specific research project. However, they should always generate genuine added value for both the research and the members of civil society involved. The programme comprises two funding lines: In funding line 1, citizen science projects are funded with a maximum of €60,000. Funding line 2 provides seed funding of up to €25,000 for third-party funded projects in the broad and diverse field of participatory research (citizen science, transdisciplinary research, transformative research, etc.).
