My freedom – Your freedom?!

Dialogue about freedom

Freedom is a central, fundamental element of our democracy. Yet, our understanding of what freedom means for an individual and for us as a society is not set in stone. How is freedom defined in concrete terms and where can it be protected? Where are its boundaries? These questions have always been the starting point for fundamental social debates and negotiation processes.

We see many freedoms as a matter of course, but recent developments in particular show how fragile freedom is and that, as a society, we do not always agree on what it means and how it is applied. “My freedom – Your freedom?!” is a project dedicated to communication between science and broader society. The objective of the project is to raise awareness of different understandings and scientific perspectives on the concept of freedom among the interested public.
